Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen – Welding and Joining Institute
The Institute of Welding and Joining Technology at RWTH Aachen University has been developing joining processes and investigating material behaviour during the welding of metallic materials for 75 years. RWTH Aachen University is the largest German technical university with 47000 students, over 6500 researchers and a strong focus on engineering research.
Role within MOWSES
The core tasks of the Welding and Joining Institute is the investigation of the weldability of the produced green steel batches. This includes the behaviour of the material subject to thermal cycles during welding, as well as the susceptibility to hot and cold cracking phenomena. Furthermore the effects of post-weld heat treatment and repeated welding cycles during repair are investigated.
